Apple identity?

This is an eating apple a plotholder was given as a present, very crisp, sweet & sharp, grows happily and fruits well. The owner never seems to pick any of the fruit, they pile up under the tree and rot.

So today I've nicked some to try & identify what it is so I can get one of my own.

I think you'll need to find an Apple Day to take them to. If somebody can do it from photos they'll need a picture of the eye as well. I was given an unknown tree and the fruit is very like what you describe and has the same thinnish stalks. I took it to an Apple Day and was told Laxton's Epicure http://apps.rhs.org.uk/plantselector/plant?plantid=5018, but there are hundreds to choose from.

Hi All,

Not sure about these but they do look like jonagold, which is a cross between golden Delicious and an american apple called Johnathan

I don't think this chaps friends will have gone anywhere with a range of varieties, more likely a DIY shed or standard garden centre.
