Every year for the last 7 or so we have grown sunflowers in the garden and every year, every one of them has, without fail flowered like this:

This year, however, one of the sunflowers has decided to be different and has flowered like this  :

The others have or are in the process of flowering in the 'correct' way but this one is obviously an individual. Unfortunately it is also tall and we are unable to see the flower itself which is a shame as it is a lovely big specimen

Not a sunflower to be seen on our site this year.Normally every other plot has at least one plant growing on it.

My girls love to watch them grow, flower and then see the birds taking the seeds, especially the finches.

Three out of the four we managed to grow (we planted 6 seedlings) this year have flowered. The tallest (yet to be measured) has a flower formed but not yet starting to open. Of the ones pictured above, the 'correct' one is 7ft 4.5 inches tall, the odd one is slightly smaller but the tallest is probably another foot taller than these :)

Another 4 spares were planted at the school and haven't reacehd the hieght of these but one of those is in flwoer and the other 3 will be flowering within the week I think :D
