My strawberries have finished fruiting, should I cut all the foliage off now or leave it?, I have pots ready to plant up some of the runners.
I had a good crop, some got partly eaten and some went mouldy.

I have two different varieties of strawberry Bren (forget what they are). One has already fruited and is currently attempting to take over the garden as normal (zillions of runners) BUT it will fruit again at the back end of summer as it has done every year since we got it.

My advice would be to take of the dead/damaged foliage, maybe top dress for extra nutrients and then see what happens - maybe you'll be lucky :D - but I'm not a strawberry expert in any way shape or form, so I may just be lucky and my plants may be oddballs that haven't read the book :D

P.S. I'd take off any remaining dead/drying/mouldy fruit as well :)

Unless they are everearing varieties it is best to give them a good hair cut after fruiting. They will soon recover with fresh growth. I have already done mine 'Marshmello' and given them a good mulch while the ground is still very moist with good rotted compost. Any runners that grow now I will cut off but if you want to make new plants they can be pegged down and cut and potted up when rooted.

Thanks V P Mum and Beryl

I cut out dead/ damaged foliage as Vpmum suggested on one raised bed and cut all the foliage and runners off the 2nd raised bed yesterday as Beryl said, I don't know what type they are as a friend gave me one lot of potted runners and I bought the others from another allotment's open garden day.
