I have a large wasp nest on the underside of the lid to a compost bin. I contacted our environment services who suggested I spray it with insecticide, which I'm a bit reluctant to do. If I just leave it, will they die off at the end of the season, could I move it then? I'd be grateful for any advice.

We had a large wasps nest on our garage wall, they vacated it at the end of the season.

It's entirely your decision. Either you kill them now or leave them. They will all starve to death in the winter and you can remove the nest. But they may become a nuisance before they die - August onwards.

If it's not too dangerous, I would certainly leave them be. Wasps will get rid of your caterpillars and help pollination, so let them do their job and then die naturally.
