Had been hoping The Patch would be completed and ready for use this Spring, but what with one thing and another (weather mostly!), it is still not ready. Maybe next year. LOL

Anyway, a work colleague kindly offered me 4 runner bean plants 'Enorma'. They are doing very well so far. The only other things growing this year are some spring onions and French Beans (both sown quite recently). Had lost my enthusiasm as The Patch wasn't ready for use - again!!

Rang the Allotment Lady yesterday to ask where I was in the queue. I was #65 2 years ago. She said she doesn't handle it any more and gave me the name and number of someone who does. Anyway she doesn't think the queue has moved at all.

Don't give up hope re the allotment, if your lot are as hopeless as ours it could be that no-one is that bothered. I gave up half my plot last October yet despite a supposed 5 year waiting list it wasn't taken up until the end of May. If someone had taken it on as soon as it was available it would have been in really good condition with very little work needed to get it ready for this year. Suggest making a bit of a nuisance of yourself, keep ringing up and writing, you never know, if there is ever anybody actually there they might listen

With the weather the way it has been this year, you might not have missed a lot on the growing front.
But there still is plenty of time for sowing most things.

I agree with the comment about making a nuisance of yourself also keep having a look at the sites you are considering and if you see what looks like an used plot ring the council and ask if it is available? If you don't pester someone else may well do and leapfrog you. Council allotments officers like an easy life. If it isn't a council allotment then maybe showing how keen you are will have a impact especially if they have had the sort of new plot holders that have given up after a few months/weeks.

I keep popping into the council office and telling them of an allotment weed strewn. O.K. the holder may have difficulties, but should be able ro delegate.

Possible to grow in containers too if you have a small yard or balcony, not too late for some autumn and winter crop planting either.Chillies will overwinter on a sunny windowsill and get away early next year. The weather is very unpredictable lately - we might have a late indian summer - or an early freeze - who knows -
