Different spuds take different lengths of time to 'mature'. Normally wait untill the flowers die off, sometimes all the foliage.
You could have a sly delve and feel what they are like underground.

At the risk of stating the *****ing obvious, Christmas spuds, foliage & all, will need protection from frost.

Hi Ashb
Maris Piper are an early main crop Harvest 15 weeks from planting.
Maris Peer are a second early so Harvest 13 weeks from planting
For a Christmas potato carlingford is the variety your require as they are an excellent potato for double cropping, they are a second early so best planted around mid June and July.
Hope this is of some help

In my view Potatoes are normally planted in March for harvesting throughout summer. If you planting first potatoes in End of February, then you can harvest it after 10 weeks. If you planting Maincrop potatoes in march, then you can harvest it after 20 weeks. If you planting Second early potatoes in march or late may, then you can harvest it after 13 weeks.

Let us know your own experiences of growing potatoes planted according to these dates. It always makes a difference where you are. Where is your garden, by the way?
