first new potatoes

After all the doom and gloom about the weather I have something positive to report...my first pick of new potatoes this year.

The pic shows the Lady Christl, planted in a sack in the greenhouse ten weeks ago. There were also lots of pea-size spuds and I know I should have left them another couple of weeks but when it comes to new potatoes I'm like a kid in a toy shop and I just have to have them!

The taste was divine and with Jersey Royals at £3 a kilo in the shops don't let anyone tell you that growing your own isn't worth it.

ooooh they look delicious. Maybe I should try my Annabelle sometime planted in pots in the greenhouse. I've not grown them before like this. Lots of foliage on them but no flowers yet. Should I wait for flowers first before having a peep?

Beryl.

Yes, OH I think I will. If they are as good as Solway's I shall be well pleased. It was just a few spare I had and couldn't throw them out.
Not even going to attempt to get to the greenhouse today. I'm sure it's as as bad your way as it is here. Poor old lottie - flooded again I bet.

Regards
Beryl.

Hi SC,
Wonderful first crop of spuds. Hope you are enjoying them.
I didn't know Lady Christl was a heritage variety!

Took me a while to figure that one out JB. I do grow an assortment of varieties, some old, some new.
