Snails

Morning All.

Anyone got any ideas on this.

I got angular plastic water butt which sits about 2 inches off the ground. I normally empty and clean it every year in early sprig. When I move it there's maybe a 150 or so snails under it in hibernation. But its a death trap for a lot of them. Some critter uses it as a restaurant. The shells have a pice missing out of them, always in the same place, the center of the spiral.

Have you found any garlic butter lying around? This would prove Peter's theory. :D

If I could identify who the critter was. Thought I might make a few more dinning places for it. Hope it don't speak French cos I'm lousy at it.

Could it be a bird?

I reckon it might be an internal parasite of the snail.

However The Malacological Society Of London does not publish online info and the most relevant book seems to be £120.00 on special offer.

So any biologists out there?

Haven't a clue PT. However, when you find the little blighter see if it's got any friends that would like an all inclusive, free holiday to my lottie to help out with the buggars on my plot.

I'll even pay travelling expenses and there's as much grub as they can eat. I'll even chuck in a nice few crates of Chablis for their personal consumption

I'll do it Lizzie! I could sneak around at night with a torch collecting all the little devils for you, but I would prefer a decent Rioja if you don't mind. :D

Talking of which, Lidl are doing a cracking Rioja called Monte Cielo at an unbelievable £2.75 per bottle. It's as good as anything JS or Tesco sell for £6 plus. :D

The Old Man likes the stuff from Aldi too. Just as good as the big supermarkets but half the price.

I don't drink so they all smell yukky to me. Just fumes!!!

I'd rather have a cuppa and piece of choccie cake :P

Just been looking at a similar posting on another site, and the suggestion there was mice.

Don't know if this helps, but it's a suggestion.

Perhaps it's the mice that are French?

You can bet your sweet ass they are! They're the one's with the garlic scented breath... That could be me though, I never stop scoffing the stuff; I rarely catch colds either and I suspect it's 'cos no one can get close enough to pass on their germs.
