Hi fellow gardeneers, new to all this, more used to hangin over fence an askin folk but my lad says i,ve got to move wi the times so i thought i,d give it a try. We moved house las yeer owin to us gettin bit older an me wifes legs wasn,t up to all the steps ( three storey house ) so we,re now in a flat.
Anyways, i own me own kitchen garden an i aim to keep it on but wi us movin an such it got lft to its own devices a bit an the onions were left in the ground.
I called other day to see how things were an the onions have luffly green growth on em an are gettin away again an the thing is this.
Do i pick em ? Can i eat em ? Will they carry on growin agen ?
What do ya reckon ? all donations gladly axepted ----clogger-----

They'll almost certainly flower this year and be useless once flowering. Except for decoration or seed gathering for next spring.
They should be usable now, but with more wasted on each bulb.

Take it easy, unless you're desperate to clean the ground, the green will wilt them a bit once lifted, so unless you're planning an all onion diet only dig a weeks worth.

Hi Peter, went up tday an lifted the lot, got half a bucket fit to eat ( solid )
rest were soft so they went in compost, ground is on a bit of a slope an onion bed was at bottom so got a fair bit o rain over winter.
Anyways, got me seed chittin away nicely in egg trays ( king edwards )
an beds for them are covered in black plastic so there weed free mainly an if weather holds like this i should have em in for paddy,s day.
The black plastic keeps ground that bit warmer an gets em off to a good start i reckon, ok thanks agen , ---clogger---
