hello just want to know how much you pay for a 10 pole plot, at the moment we pay 112 pounds per year, please can you let me know i would like to pass this back to my local mp...as our council seems to what to put the price up again this year,,,thank you

Evening Shedboy, our rents are a massive £10 for a ten rod plot, but they are not owned by the council, luckily......

The main grass track, as well as all the sidepaths, get cut, and this is also included in the price.
Although i do that, just to keep things looking nice.

The National Society of Allotment and Leisure Gardeners advise that "The average rent for a 10 pole plot in England & Wales is £25-£35 per year " and point out that "Section 10 of the Allotments Act 1950 speaks of allotment rents being that which “...a tenant may reasonably expect to pay....”. So £112 for a standard plot is three and a half times the average rent.
My allotments are Council owned and next year Iwill pay £41-20 for my 15 perch/pole-which is half the full price(£2-74/£5-48 per perch/pole).

We pay £40 a year for a full plot which has one dipping trough for water for all 10 plots. There is no maintenance included, the allotmenteers do that themselves. And there is no vehicular access to the plots, just a steep footpath.

You don't think I should complain then, having just found out that they are raising the price of our allotments in April to £15?

we pay £51.00 per yr. and this includes £15.00 water charge, for a full plot. Has gone up for three yrs running though.

Does anyone know what is the most expensive site in the country and what they get for the extra?

Mine went up from £18 to £25 two years ago, they belong to the regional land owner!

Blooms of Worcester have plots to let, basic £5 PER WEEK, with greenhouse and water butt £10 PER WEEK!

And some have been taken!

You would have to grow and harvest some veggies to make that cost worthwhile!

i think you win hands down for price wise,thats 520 a year wow thats a lot for a plot, do the council run that.

i think i win at the moment for a council run plots £112 for a ten pole plot.can anyone beat that..

That's a third of a full 10 rod plot. Which makes an equivalent of approx £780 or £1560 a year for a full plot. Surely my maths must be wrong

I think £112 is a ridiculously high annual rental to pay for an allotment. You'd have to grow an awful lot of vegetables on it even to break even, let alone to start benefitting from growing your own. I think all your plot owners should get together and complain to your local council and your MP. It goes against the whole grain of sustainability and growing your own food when you're required to pay rents like this.

thanks for the reply primrose, we have talked to the local council and they said the price will stand for this year,because the allotments are funded by the tax payer,which most plot holders are tax payers as well,the best thing the council do not pay any rent for the site,we only have water rates,cutting the grass twice a year as well,i bet you the rent will go up again this year as well...

My son,who lives in Preston,says that up his way Lancashire council are going to put the rents of their allotments up,over a period,to £200 per year.The excuse is that the running costs of the sites equates to an outlay of £240 per plot per year!!!
