Hey, how exciting. We saw those yesterday, travelling from just north of Skipton along the Wharfe Valley to Ilkley and Otley, all not too far from Leeds, and commented how strange they looked. Now I know they are called lenticular clouds - well, we learn something new every day.

They are cool - beats trying to find little teddy bear shapes out of other clouds!

From the Greek, 'Lenticularis' - lens shaped. You want to see 'em from 17,000 feet, on your glider wing tip and stacking away like dinner plates. But to get to the incredible lift they generate, you have to go through the rotor ! ! ! !
