Best price on 3-gallon black builders' buckets is £1 each in Pound Stretchers, all other outlets here have crept up towards £2 and beyond. At £1 each it's worth getting new buckets and use the old ones for restricting the mint roots.

beware of the handles on cheap buckets, some of them (mine are orange from a large diy store) just snap into slots in the plastic and very quickly wear the plastic enough to fall out every time you put the bucket down.
the trade emulsion paint buckets are quite good when washed out, as are the kitchen tile adhesive buckets.

I grow my toms in the buckets that chicken manure pellets come in, just drill holes in the bottom, the chicken manure is pretty good too!!
