I've just seen on the TV that the Queen now has an allotment in the grounds of Buck House.

When I first took on my plot, my husband was rather embarrassed to tell people. Now it's so fashionable, it's about the first thing they here about me. :lol:

I've also just heard that some council waiting lists are so long that people are more likely to get a burial plot before their allotment plot! That is very sad.

Always good to lead by example. But I hope Her Majesty doesn't bother to dress up like that if she ever comes to view my humble garden plot. With my backside hanging out of my tatty old trousers or shorts and a grubby tee-shirt I would feel considerably under-dressed for the occasion.
But if this puts pressure on Local Authorities to speed up the finding up of allotment plots for all those on the waiting list it can only be a good thing.

I wonder if the queen is covered in greenfly this weekend like we are in Rugby. There seem to be loads everywhere not just on the allotment but in town too. Yuk

I heard the announcement about the Queen's allotment and may she enjoy the produce.
What I didn't like about the announcement was that according to the BBC allotments were introduced as a way to keep the working classes away from alcohol and so prevent drunkenness!
The thought that they were introduce so that the poorly paid had at least a fighting chance to feed their family properly seems to have escaped the BBC's notice.

...and HM is about to commit the biggest allotment blunder of them all: gets it all planted up (well her 8 gardeners get it planted up) and then disappears for summer holiday (Balmoral) and comes home to find everything's finished :wink: :lol:

If HM does go off to Balmoral, at least the gardeners will eat well! :lol:

I remember that there was a lovely looking demonstartion plot in St James Park ("next door" to HM) a few yeras ago. It may have been a display about WW2.
Nothing is foolproof to a sufficiently talented fool.
