At long last this morning I was able to go down to the bottom of my garden and pick some blackberries amongst the wild brambles there! Not that many, but actually eatable. Maybe tomorrow as well?

They're very late Colin, are they in the shade? You've reminded me to have another look for some to go with an apple pie. Thanks.

We eventually had a good few to pick here - but much later and sparser than usual. Fortunately plenty of apples to cook with them

No Plumpudding - these are in the Sun! The ones in the shade are just flowering! It's been that kind of year. Very early strawberries then everything became late - Sweetcorn only just ripening - or finished early - Runner Beans.

We have had a week of rain and fog and the blackberries are all squashy now.. which is as well as the freezer is full.
Runner beans still coming..

Don't know about the first blackberries, but my strawberries have all started flowering and fruiting again in the current warm weather. Poor plants will be totally exhausted after this!
There's a saying "Don't pick blackberries after the end of September because the devil has pi**ed on them" but I'm still picking mine, and as a result of recent wave of sunshine they're still tasting fin and haven't yet developed that 'rotting/mouldy' taste.

The "cut-off date" is the 11th of October - Michaelmas Day on the Julian calendar. The belief goes back much further than the switch to the Gregorian calendar in 1752. So another week to enjoy
