Going through my stock this morning to sort out next years stock, they are rotting at a gallop. :(

Sorry to hear that - but thanks for the tip, - I just checked through mine, not a big crop, but they seem OK, but will remember to check every week or so.

How do you store yours?

Same with my onions, spot moulds on the outside and then in through a few layers. The red ones seem worse. :D

Eeeek! Must go and look properly at mine. They share the shed with the motorbikes and I gave them a cursory glance while locking the bike away yesterday. Will look more closely. Quite a few of the onions succumbed to white onion rot this year, anyone else had this problem?

adam-alexander. I cadged plastic perforated mushroom boxes from the market stall. These are stack-able' my shed is at the end of a windy passage, I leave the shed door open, so they have plenty of draught.

My onions ate in hanging baskets in a well ventilated shed, with an (ex IT) construct containing four times six icy fans on all day moving the air around.

They still have problems from what had attached to them before they were lifted. :(

Had another look at my shallots yesterday, they are rotting at a gallop, looks like I will have to buy fresh stock for next year, can't complain, haven't bought any for approx 14 years now.

Hi Shallotman, sorry to hear this. Wonder if it's down to the strange weather this year.

My Longor produced a fair crop this year. Between the time I picked them and when they'd dried enough to bag up & put into the shed, I lost maybe 3-5% (they were mushy, presumably rotting) which is more than usual.

This week the shed they're stored in has got pretty hot from the unseasonal sun, so it will be interesting to check them this weekend.

Unlike Tigger's experience, we haven't yet had problems with our garlic. Touch wood...
