Strangely our local supermarket stocks venison but compared to other meats not much sells. From the point of view of animal welfare venison is probably a lot better than a lot of other more popular cheaper meats, as they get a pretty normal life till they are killed and consumed. It's good to see them in a natural environment. There are other ways to help our woodland like joining the woodland trust, and getting out in the fresh air and volunteering

NB, it's very unlikely to be anything other than Farmed venison in a supermarket. So kept in a field just like cattle, except the fence will be much higher.
As for natural environment, hmm, there are more of the introduced species than the native.

To see Muntjac in their natural environment would involve a long journey.

Peter, we do have wild deer round here, a lot of woodland and coppiced woodland, it is not unusual to have a family of deer cross the lane in front of the car, also wild boar are common around here. Our supermarket's independent and they pride themselves on supporting local suppliers, so along with wall's sausages we also have a choice of wild boar sausages, wild duck, pheasant and rabbit as well. It's not your average supermarket, we actually get the opportunity to meet local producers and growers on occasional promotions.

Envy you that NB. The usual supermarkets around my way but
they always refuse planning permission to the biggest but it's
only a couple of miles away anyhow. We have lots of farm shops
but they are off the beaten track a bit and you seriously wonder
if worth the journey when you get there as not much variety individually.

We do have the best butcher who sells lots of game but the price is
a bit prohibitive for all the time so it is a treat. He even slices his bacon by hand and with the furred and feathered hanging outside it is a bit like going back in time.

Westi, we are also lucky how he trains his staff, it's a pleasure to shop there
they are all so polite helpful and friendly, a lovely atmosphere. They shut on sundays, they are quakers, I don't begrudge that, its nice for their staff to get a day off with their families.
I am veggie Snooky, but my partner is a carnivore, my mother eats some meat, and when family visit some are veggie and some eat meat. Where did yer get the flaming smilie from.

Our landlord ( beef and dairy farmer whose cattle graze around our house) thought we were vegetarian until we told him that we cannot afford meat. he kindly gave us some so we apologiised to the cattle.

It is all a horrendous price which is why we grow and eat as we do. And fish! oh my!
