Heavy drizzle all day here.

Sowed some Sweet Peas in pots in the greenhouse. I used Wickes peat based compost. Lovely stuff to plunge your hands into. Far better than the peat free stuff I used for the last few years

Glad to find another convert PJ - I've been recommending it for a few years.
Slushy snow stopped here about 9:00 yesterday but still hasn't completely gone. Didn't achieve much yesterday apart from counting half my Sweet Peas are up and composing a Mr Angry letter to Virgin Media.

Another dull old day here this morning, hope it brightens up a little later, got someone coming to see if they can help me get my rotovator started.
They were coming yesterday, but it was just too wet.

I was up at quarter to two !

Only to let the dog out though

We were up at 2 a.m, woken by what we thought was next door's very loud burglar alarm going off as their front garden external security light had been triggered. Then, as we rubbed the sleep from our eyes, we realised it was actually OUR alarm which was going off. Checked everything and could find no sign of any intruder so we have no idea what that was all about. Needless to say, it was a big difficult to get back to sleep after that adrenalin surge.

Is it possible that a few seconds of power surge or blackout could have triggered these two seemingly connected events?

Things must be looking up. Opened the back door this morning to the sound of a Curlew making its noisy way overhead.

Dear Primrose, indeed a sudden, short cut in power will trigger off a security light, regarding your alarm, the rechargeable battery inside the alarm should stop that happening, so you might have to get it checked.

If it has a rechargeable battery, that is.

Another dark and wet morning here, but tomorrow will be a different day.

Managed to get the rotovator started yesterday, after a lot of messing about, but we don't know why it wouldn't start before, what is always a little annoying.

I woke up with hope the weather would improve slightly so that I could finally plant those tulip bulbs someone gave me a few weeks back, but it is so wet and dark that I've already lost all my energy.

I'm new and so pleased I can find answers to all my gardening questions, so... I reckon I might be staying for longer

I agree with you Bergamot. I too am relatively new and it is great to find answers to questions on the forum and it is also good to know you are not alone with your problems. It is nice that people are so willing to share their experiences, good and bad and offer advice so freely.

On the weather front, things seem to be improving here - not before time! Unfortunately that will probably mean I will be into the tyranny of the grass cutting very soon. Hope things improve for you soon - it is amazing what a bit of sun can do to your energy levels.

Yes, and what's more - the advice is not only free but usually backed by tons of experience and that is invaluable.

Weather...hmmm...no signs of improvment here. After so many days of rain I am ready to swap it for "the tyranny of the grass cutting" (don't even mind doing it with a pair of kitchen scissors )

Tulip bulbs have to wait and I am off to the kitchen to make some bread for tomorrow and croissants for tonight....and dinner too.

Allotmenteering is definitely off the agenda today.

All this rain is very frustrating. There are so many things I'd like to be getting on with outdoors. However, it does mean I'm catching up with my library books.
