So are these monsters edible or not?
My canadian aquaintance tells me that any pumpkin over about 70lb is bitter and unusable.

We invited some neighbours round on Saturday to make a start on ours.
Pumpkin soup came out great from the 74lb orange one.
When roasted it went paler rather than darker like we are used to and didn't have as much flavour as the small Triple Treats that we usually grow. It certainly wasn't bitter or inedible, some of them had seconds and I'm sure it wasn't politeness.

a lot of the americans save the seeds to roast in a low oven,very nice by all accounts
crikey ive had a bad day,the truck came to take my pumpkins to the local scrapyard for weighing.we had 4 people lifting the tarp,and only managed to move 3 fruit.the biggest was then tackled and we couldnt lift it.i then measured it and it wont fit through the damn gate.to make matters worse the fence is 10ft high
looks like im gunna have to saw it up and weigh all the bits on site.gutted isn't the word,chantal i'll send you the pics, peter.
well,ive been beaten again by 11 year old son (mikey) :cry .we had the newcastle evening chronicle out yesterday. to take pictures of his new record pb.his monster has weighed out at 407lbs.breaking last years 141lbs.the fruit was grown from a powers 1050lb seed.the feature should be in todays edition,thanks to everyone who had a try growing them.hope we can do it again next year.peter
