That's it pa, they don't like the even numbered plots ;) lol

I've had the same happen to some of my red onions which are growing from seeds I got with the mag... I think its the weather this year. Red onions tend to be less cold hardy and don't keep as well, I'm wondering if the same attributes, have lead to them splitting while young.

I'm just guessing here

Could be a good guess though Dan (the weather bit and reds not liking the cold, not the even plot number bit ....

although as it happens they are all even   )

How close together are they planted?

About 4".

I'm with the weather on the Red Onion question. I find Red Baron from seed keep almost as well as white Onions.

I wish it would warm up a bit. It was down to 4° last night. The French beans don't like it and I've still got the fleece tunnel over the sweetcorn. Weeds growing well though.

Beautiful day down South today, but didn't get to lottie with the home garden needing a bit of TLC!

Everything in the Greenhouse looking good (except that one giant spider), flowers on the tomatoes, and cucumbers starting to climb! All the little flower seeds are starting to pop their heads up in the beds & I'm excited to see how it is going to look. I had a significant collection of free flower seeds from magazines which I mixed up in a bowl & sprinkled around. Not interested in colour themes, just colour, so fingers crossed.

Tomorrow is lottie day & looking forward to it, but will need to water first off - oh & then probably weed all day! But got the week off so won't have to go tooth & nail.

It's good in the frozen North when you can eat outside and enjoy fresh dug Potatoes with fresh picked Courgette and Mangetout whilst hearing the tennis has been halted by rain in Paris and it is warmer here than Monaco.
Planted out loads of stuff today and carrying on into the evening with annual flowers.

Returned home after weeks holiday in Cornwall to an infestation of Japanese Beetles on the front garden, not a friendly beetle but one which can do a lot of damage due to the size of their numbers. Also,a dozen or more Cockchafers dead on the ground, probably because they have flown into the windows of the house which seems to be a favourite pastime of theirs.

Another beautiful day down at lottie. Everything growing nicely, except some squash & courgettes which had been pulled out of the ground, probably not long after I left after putting them in judging by their deceased dried up size! The birds don't usually bother with them. Unfortunately a couple of pumpkins also met their maker today as dog decided to eat them, actually eat the leaves, & broke the stems. (No idea why, has never done anything like it before)! Luckily still time to re-sow!

Weeds as anticipated were rampant, but got Lottie 1 under control so will tackle Lottie 2 next, but did weed the strawberry bed on that side and ate 3 ripe strawberries I found. I'm going to have a glut of Pak Choy as well as I had none showing after 2 1/2 weeks & re-sowed & both lots up.

I've just come in from lounging on the patio, it's 19 degrees, but a sea breeze. Prosecco open, BBQ smells from the neighbours & the sounds of children playing. A pretty perfect if tiring day! (Not counting the dog incident)!

Have been away for a few days and before leaving debated whether to take the water bottle cloches off my outdoor tomatoes, worried that they might either bake under them during the day in sunshine or shiver at night if left uncovered. Well I left them uncovered and they seem to have survived but yesterday seemed much warmer than today. The tumbling varieties are even bearing their first few tiny tomatoes but some warmer night temperatures would be welcome for the more tender plants.

After a brilliant Bank Holiday I was tempted to start an Early Summer thread yesterday.
Then I realised that it might be a little provocative when so much of England has been shrouded under cloud and hit with rain and wind

We Celts (Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales and Cornwall) have claimed the best conditions by the sound of it.

Sunny and hot all over the weekend and still wall-to-wall blue sky today. No change to speak of for the next week apart from a welcome drop of rain on Saturday.

Hot work in the polytunnel planting peppers, chillies, beetroot, cucumbers and herbs.

Don't rub it in Alan. We've had cold North winds and cloud all week with the odd glimpse of sun. Over night temperatures of 6 and max day time temperatures of 10 yesterday and today. Everything is sulking that I planted out last week.
