As I see it we the long suffering public have two choices at the next election. 1/ do not go out and vote, 2/ support one of the fringe parties, the downside of option two is you just change the pigs at the trough.

Apart from suggesting that Lord Acton was right (but we all know that).
As the cut is being taken by all and sundry, and would be taken by others if they were in a position to do so, I would continue to do what I have always done:- vote for the person and policies you see as closest to your own.

Unfortunately the press has done this topic to death
which means it will loose its impact with the public who
will just ignore it and it will all get swept under the
carpet.

I would have to say if they made the rules that easy
it would be tempting, but I am in the service of serving
others - as are they - so that thought would always niggle.
Pity it didn't niggle them!

As to who to vote for - don't know for sure as whoever
gets in will have to start paying back the money given to
sort the bank crisis. This no doubt will be public services
so whoever you think should get in read between the lines.

I see on the news that the Police are now involved with some of the MP,s expenses. I would be happier if the real professionals were involved, IE The Inland Revenue.

I see that my MP (Forest of Dean) has claimed £5.14 for a tin of fungicide.
This of course is just what a true forester needs to go with his chainsaw and woodworm killer.
He always comes round to see us for a quick chat just before elections.

Went to a meeting held by our MP today to discuss the expenses scandal and to give our feelings on the possible reforms we would like to see. He made an interesting comment about the possibility of changing elections from First Past the Post, to Proportional representation. His concern was that because of the spread of our electorate, this would almost inevitably lead to hung parliaments which would invalidate the option of voting for parties with specific policies because almost inevitably, the haggling which is involved in coming up with a workable coalition would mean that most policies would be watered down or thrown overboard in the attempt to ensure a government's survival. So under a scheme of proportional representation, you could for example vote for an anti-EU party yet end up with a coalition which takes you deeper into EU Federalism. Not sure that this kind of democracy appeals to me. I want to vote for something I'm sure a winning party would be able to deliver if it was elected.

I've been wondering just which part of the word 'partner' this man failed to understand - it's not the most difficult word in the world!

And as for his whinging about not wanting to draw attention to his sexuality, surely the best way to do that would have been by not claiming dodgy expenses!

With judgment like that, this man is well cut out for a career in politics!
