The ARS pruner arrived today....have to say I'm a bit disappointed as it is quite a lot lighter duty than I thought it would be...good job I got the larger of the two blade sizes. So perhaps the Bay tree may live another day....Or not...as my plan may have to be readjusted a little..........

7mm rain today...to coincide with the day that most of our volunteer ladies are with us...every cutting that could be potted has been potted. Good job Sam and I made up a batch of compost last thing yesterday afternoon...now put to good use. :)

Completed a major job today: I cut our long rosa rugosa hedge - exceedingly prickly but rather satisfying when it all looks tidy again.

Last bit of plot 17 without standing crops now dug, 8'x30', followed by an hour walking at Hatfield Forest.

Such a lovely day and such a lot to do that I decided to go in to work today and put in 4 short rows of Lady Christl Potatoes and then the Sturon, Stuttgarter, Jet Set, Piroska Red, Snowball white Onion sets.... Mum will be pleased to have them out from under a chair in the front room here. :? ...so you may gather we don't run our front room very warm if we can keep onion sets in store in there. :shock:

Away to shut the greenhouses now...they were massively hot, for the time of year, this lunchtime and opened right up.

Buzzards were circling incredibly high up.

...and I saw a Brimstone yellow butterfly in the orchard. :)

Same sort of day here, planted two 30foot rows of Lady Cristl, planted onion sets.....

Greenhouse vents massively open...

Buzzards very high....

And saw an Old Coder amongst the fruit bushes, :)

Weather not quite so brilliant here today, not really cold but fairly cloudy, yesterday was much better. Have got loads done this weekend, a total of nine hours on the plot over the 2 days. I've now been officially downsized to a half plot and I'm enjoying it so much more - it feels as if a great weight has been lifted from my shoulders. What's more, because I have had to plan things a lot more carefully I think that I'll actually get much better productivity. Still, that's easy enough to say before the weeds and pests become rampant as they inevitably will! :roll:

Dear Jude, don't forget the weeds and pests will only be in half the amount now, too. So keep the hoe going from an early stage, an a eagle eye open for the pest at an early stage... :)

Very dark and dingy here the last three days. Yesterday we had just a little sun, today it's very overcast but we can see the blue skies 12 miles away towards the east! Not fair.

But we did finish clearing out the huge compost bins and I forked in all the manure which has been lying on the potato bed since late autumn. The carrot bed is now covered with clear plastic.

I progressed some more of the kitchen garden middle path herbaceous border...that I ran out of weather to do last back end. Have now arrived at a point were there is some of that lovely seed everywhere Allium sphaerocephalon.... and then some couch grass to weedle out of Day Lilly.....

Then we carried a large American style fridge freezer up a long passageway down a step, up 2 steps and round a corner up 6 more steep stone steps.....

Sowed the Shirley Tomatoes.

Overcast...but a still and dry day to make some progress.

Fog never really lifted today here, and is heavy again tonight.
Managed to get to the allotment yesterday....
Why do I always forget something.......slug pellets this time :-(
