Has anyone else got these strong, hot winds today, it really is making the plants look rather limp.
Kind Regards, Old Herbaceous.

Mighty windy up in E. Lincs.....and mighty warm with it....and yes, things in the borders are looking somewhat limp...and that was yesterday evening when it was still.....
Just back from garden visiting....Scrivelsby Court this afternoon...home of the Queens Champion.
Day Lily Joan Senior bought for work and a Lobelia for a gap in the gateway at home here.

Just a short sharp shower here this afternoon, otherwise sunny, dry and very windy. I am contemplating suing the Met Office for raising our hopes and dashing them again and again.
Thanks, Clive, for the Gannet story. The "interesting sounding twin Mamba turboprop" explains why it used to wake me up at night!! During the daytime, I used to cycle to Ford aerodrome and stand at the perimeter under the flight path and 'f'eel' the planes taking off above me. The stupidity of youth.

Very windy here, before we left today for Arley Hall in Cheshire to see the beautiful herbaceous borders. They were wonderful, no rain I am afraid till about 4.00pm then only a light shower, what has happened to the weather forecast, where is the heavy rain.
Tonight we still have high winds but the sky is clearing again in the sky to the west.

How did the fete go OH?
I couldn't decide whether you were first prize in the raffle, or if you were the sideshow

Evening P.J, the fete went very well indeed, but by the heck it was hot clearing up at the end.
I just end up walking about the fete making everyone smile.

Good morning OH,
I'm pleased it all went OK. You certainly had a nice day for it. It would be nice to have just a little rain now

Clive, remember our discussion about large low flying aircraft - viewtopic.php?f=8&t=7961&p=77524&hilit=aircraft#p77524
Well it came over low again today again on a NI heading but this time with better visibility. The six engines were in fact four with large pods between them, it also had more of a smoke trail than a vapour trail so I guess your original identification was probably correct.

Hello Geoff,
Yes, sounds like a C130H...with old smokey turboprop engines..
Bit too cloudy today this way on to see much overhead....I did see a Puma helicopter...go past at cup of tea time this afternoon...
..and at one time heard a USAF C5 Galaxy transport whining along up high....
Dodging showers today....only 1.5mm overall...enough to wet me if not the ground. Hedgetrimming around the perimeter...waded through some thistles/nettles to do the outside....pretty stupid in shorts.
.....I'm feeling it now...........
Geraniums moved up a pot size during damp interludes....
Amazing drop in temp' today from Saturdays roasting......
Clive.

Had a lucky escape at work today, taking fifteen foot out the top of a neglected Laurel hedge, only to have a football sized wasp nest fall from above me on to the ground.
Got away with only one sting, but i did drop my chainsaw still running, and there it lay for fifteen minutes ticking over before i dared to retrieve it.
The wasps were more than a little .
