Have I missed something?
Is the forum going to change?
Some of us have lived here since the very beginning of KG forum time and have survived several so-called upgrades. I seem to remember that at each 'upgrade' all the old postings were cleared out and we started afresh. All in the name of progress! There is such a wealth of good hints and tips (among the garbling) in the old postings so please tell me that it won't all be ditched yet again. We seem to have a dwindling band of regulars and a dramatic change could be the final straw that finishes this forum.

Dear John, if you go to website help it will explain a little of what is about to happen.

Don't panic John!

The only time the forum was restarted was when KG was sold and Mortons took over. They set up the new forum and couldn't import the thousands of postings on the old forum as it was totally different software.

This is just an upgrade to a new (better/faster/safer) server and an upgrade of the same software.

If all goes well, we'll hardly notice the difference.

Go to viewtopic.php?t=6389 and you'll see what's happening.

Panic over then?

I remember the take over by Mortons. Does anyone else remember the Roman Catholic sister who took offense at a remark about a dog and never submitted to a thread after but was actually very knowledgeable? Do you remember when the topics were all jumbled together and weren't divided into topics and fell off the end of the page after about 15 threads? I'm sure Allan and Jonboy were writing on the forum then. Am I correct? I do miss some of the old writers like Jenny Green.

Dear jane E, i was still looking then and hadn't built up the courage to join.
Mainly down to some rather aggressive replies that would appear from time to time.

But i do miss some of those early members, especially Jenny Green, she was such a good laugh.

Dear Jane

You are thinking of Sister Claire Julian whose postings survived the Mortons relaunch of the new forum, though not the decision to allow only registered users to post.

Seriously irkedis almost her swansong. Her indignation concerned this thread. Ah! The old days of forum debate!

Oh Alan, did you HAVE to remind me about all that malarky!

I've never known anyone more anxious to pick a fight on here.

Chantal,

The holy Sister's posts, though now history, are just something that sit unbidden at the back of my mind. I wish they didn't

It may be that the good Sister is monitoring the forum, see the above comments and come back to "debate" even more vigorously :!: :!:

How interesting that would be :!: :?:

Thanks Alan. That brings back memories! It wasn't that one I remembered but the dog one. I think she left three or four times and I'm remembering back to a time before this even. It was before that format again. I used to find the interchanges absolutely rivoting!! If I remember, the late Allan used to give as good as he got. His style was unforgettable! Anyway, I enjoy tuning into present company too, although I often don't contribute.

Just read 'seriously irked' too. Found it as amusing as I did the first time, but the dog argument is much earlier. I think the Guest was actually a forum member who took her on deliberately in disguise.

Its funny how asking people to register set off such a storm - I guess some people enjoyed the 'anonymity' that posting as a guest gave you. (Which in reality was none - we could still track a poster - it just opened us up to spam / abuse and much more)

As for the upgrade - if it goes perfectly - you'll never know! There might be a few new features in the posting options or in your account profile settings, but the forum here <--here--> should be unaffected.

So far we've moved 25-odd domains to the new server, and we start on the forums this week.

As I mentioned I may close the forum whilst we swap it over, so no posts are lost - this won't take more then a few hours - watch the kitchen garden main site for news if not.

As for past posts/threads - they ALL remain :)
