One of the great things I find about the electronic interweb is that there are whole new audiences for the written word. The short story in particular is having a massive renaissance, despite those in print media performing the last rites!

Chantal, have you tried Tess Gerritson or Jeffery Deaver? I can recommend both if you like detective/thrillers.

Chantal, I hadn't heard of Tess Gerritsen until last year, when I bought one of her paperbacks for £1 at a local bookstall. I have now read all her medical thriller books - they're great, although some are stronger than others. I would recommend 'Harvest' or 'Vanish' as the two best, IMO. I couldn't put either of them down!

Are they similar to Robin Cook (not the late politician)? The titles sound similar and being medical thillers it makes me wonder

Well I haven't read Robin Cook either and Coma was was the only book of his I had heard of. Just completed a search on his books and they do look remarkable similar to Tess's (or the other way around). I'll have to grab a Robin Cook or two and compare the writing styles of the two authors. Is he good?

He is very good but he always has some know-it-all characters who can't speak in plain English and insist on having converations, often in times of dire emergency, which use medical words.
I mean can you imagine saying to a friend, as someone is chasing after you with a gun and a loaded hypodermic "I got such a shock just then I nearly had a cardiac infarction"? Other than that, yes, recommended.

I'm really starting to feel guilty that i don't read enough, i can't really start to imagine how you lot find the time to get through so many books.
By the time i finaly get to sit down at night, i have a job to keep my eyes open.
Maybe i should set myself an hours reading time a day. but there again i'm enjoying what i'm doing anyway, so it will have to wait until i'm even older.

hi everyone,been off line for a while,to busyenjoying the plot and making jams,but have had time for reading,just read a fab book called driving over lemons by chris stuart,the ex drummer from Genesis.its about his time that he moved to Andalucia and bought an old farm and got it up and running with his wife.BRILLIANT!
