I'm behind & have to resow as what has come up as is leggy despite the grow light. Another weekend away from lottie as well by the look of the weather report - big rain tomorrow & gales on Sunday! Well at least it's the Six Nations so will be distracted!

But too early to worry much & my spuds are chitting lovely, even if the cat has taken to sleeping on them!

I have at last made a purchase of seed potatoes for home...some Kestrel, Sharpes Express and a few Maris Peer....and then selected out some Duke of York and Lady Christl of own grown.

A change of source this year as we usually go to Anwick garden centre....but it has been on a rebuild and shut since last year..must check and find out when it re-opens.

Maris Peer was the first Potato I ever grew, with Grandad and the Sharpes Express is a local old variety that we haven't grown for many years. We stopped when we had them go to "soup" in the pan...so we shall see if anything has changed...

Now if Clive had called it a front parlour... that would have showed his age! Although our cottage is small we do have two places to sit, one is an offshoot of the kitchen, and they get called the summer room and the winter room because of when we tend to use them! The winter room faces north, has a big fireplace with a log burner, a small window and is ideal for cold winter evenings. The summer room faces south, has bigger windows and the back door and dog yard easily accessible.

What do you call your rooms? Front, back, breakfast, sun?

A Mess

It hasn't got a piano or an aspidistra....but it does have several previous computers...nearly under every chair. leaving just enough room for the seed potatoes....and a box of seeds on two of the chairs

Our house is divided into wings, with the East wing being the most pleasant....

Actually i like our little middle room the most, it is more of a link from the kitchen to the other rooms, but it has the open fire and i always refer to it as, the cosy room. It's got an old sofa in there, so just the job for when i have my work clothes on, which just happens to be quite often. I even sneek in there if i have my work boots on, only if cook is not about, of course....

Well that was an interesting couple of hours - glad it stopped - still bleak Mid Winter after all.

We've just had torrential rain with lightening.
Stopped now but patio area and rear garden now has number of large puddles

I've cheered myself by reading one of those particular tabloids that focus on weather telling me March is indeed going to be cold & snowy but from Easter we'll have temps of 27c or more for a couple of months to rival Spain!

Do I believe it - Nah! Does it make me feel more optimistic - Oh yep! Not that we're likely to get too much snow down here in Dorset, but in the rest of the country, if this turns out correct, it won't delay planting too much for everyone to have a brilliant season!

Great photo, Geoff. We are not quite as white as you but certainly have a covering and more white stuff 'promised' for tomorrow and Tuesday. Interesting ....
It's cleared up now and looks decidedly frosty, so I have covered the sweet peas, broad beans, peas, onions and chitting potatoes in the unheated greenhouse with double bubble plastic.

At least we got all our manure spread last weekend just after it had been delivered. It's horse manure this year. The farmer was not allowed to sell the cow manure off his farm because the contractor had used aminopyralid weedkiller on the pastures again. I really prefer cow manure - it seems to have more "oomph" in it, but horse is better than nothing.

Nice covering of snow again here too. I wish it would go now there is so much to do and Ive hardly started with the last lot of snow only just clearing.
