It's been raining here off and on the last few days, too. But so very welcome! I think autumn is my favourite season and it's certainly felt autumnal the last few days, just 12 degrees maximum yesterday.

The freezer is full, the runner beans (Enorma) are still cropping well, carrots are brill this year and now it's the turn of the brassicas. So why should I complain about the rain - good for the complexion, they say, and what would we do in gardens without it?

Hi OH. Mine blew onto the kale and sprouts which are quite tall so I was able to resurrect them again. Canes are not as strong as they used to be, they just bent right over. Noticed a few fallen autumn leaves too. Rain and wind again tomorrow.
Glad you are having a good year Monika, it has been a goods year here too.

I think we may get very fed up of rain soon, three inches of rain reported at Capel Curig yesterday - (remnants of Hurricane Irene and TS Jose?) and keep the hatches battened down as the remnants of hurricane Katia are forecast to bring loads more rain by Monday.

The municipal Horse Chesnuts in North London on my daily commute are now a toasty brown and starting to shed their leaves. One had dumped enough conkers on the A10 in Enfield for the rain puddles under it to be turned into foam by the wheels as they crushed the conkets releasing whatever chemical it is they contain and that acts like fairy liquid.

Just to let you all know, my dear, dear friend Charles, passed away peacefully yesterday morning, after a years battle.

I'm sure he was one of the nicest Gentlemen i've ever met, and i feel honoured to have been one of his many friends.

God bless you, Charles my dear fellow.

No replies please.
