weve had a cloudy warm night.... some of the snow has dissapeered overnight , still slushy ice on the lane, but a couple of cloudy warm days and nights are forcast with some rain tomorrow which should clear most of the snow away.... just been and checked the outside taps, if any have frozen and burst they will show up in the next few hours.

Today we have the southerly breeze that Peter mentioned.
The temperatures have gone from -3.7F to plus 34.7F overnight we still have almost 12" of snow but it is going quite steadily. The next thing that will happen in this area is floods.
I remember some years ago having 6" of snow at 1am and none at 7.30am which cause the river Teme to be over one mile wide by midday and we had the most horrendous floods for nearly a fortnight.
Of course it's being so cheerful that keeps me going!

i think the rule of thumb is 1 foot of snow equals an inch of rain.... but somehow melting snow doesnt seen to drain away as rain would.. at the very least it seems to hang about in the surface creating a wet muddy mess.... at least we are on top of a hill so dont have to worry about flooding

River here about to burst it's banks and this is because the agency responsible have put a new weir in to prevent flooding further down stream.
This is like saying the Local Authorities have allowed houses to be built in the flood plain lower down the river so as to lessen their mistake rural folk have to put up with the hastle of flooding. Bloody cheek!
