I bought a wonderful little gizmo from the wool shop today, it's a pack of 3 sizes of plastic rings for making pompoms :D My biggest problem was cutting out cardboard rings and I've already gone through 3 lots of them. This makes life much easier and I'm getting even faster at pompom production.

Thirty nine hats now completed and another seven waiting for pompoms. How are you guys doing? Have you hit the 1K yet Belinda

I`m seriously lagging behind Chantal!
Been stuck at two dozen since before the weekend - mainly due to heavy allotment activity.
Daytime on the plot :) , evenings doing admin for the committee! :(
I`ll check out the plastic pompom rings though, I`ve been demolishing them every two or three pompoms.
Ham fisted old me! :D
I`ve recruited several serious knitters though, so that`s a contribution eh? :D

Hi Elderflower, I've just wasted a couple of hours knitting time 'cos I had to work out all the rent increases for next year (AGM in 3 weeks) and I couldn't believe it could be so complicated. Anyway, job done and just time for another hat before bed.

With the nights drawing in we'll all have more time to click those needles. Well done with the new recruits :D

Let me know if you have a problem with the pompom rings as I can always get some here and post them to you.

I need to play catch up, but I have done a number of hats. I'll draw comparisons at the end of the week.

 Well I've just had a count up - ahem, 168 hats in total, and no repeats yet

Though about half of them are still waiting to be sewn up and pom-poms created and attached. I figure I'll keep knitting until the end of the week, then start making up and doing pom-poms, hopefully I'll get them all done before the deadline of 22nd Oct.

Good luck everyone - keep knitting!

Belinda, you are brilliant! :D

I'm forcing myself to sew up and make pompoms as I go along as the knitting is my favourite bit.

Chantal - same here - I sew up with the same needleful that I thread the last stitches on. My 6yo grandaughter was asking me what they were at the weekend and I`m afraid I told her, straight-faced, they were for fairies to keep their heads warm in the winter. She gave me an "Oh god, she`s going gaga." look!

My cleaner is baffled. She found a bucketful of them yesterday having previously found a dozen or so as little doorknob warmers on my kitchen cupboards. She asked Tim who couldn't remember what it was all about them except I was "knitting them for Sainsbury's". God give me strength

Innocent currently have over 9,000 hats on their hatometer, lots more to be knitted.

Elderflower, did you get a pompom template?

Elderflower - What wonderful images I have in my head, fairies with wooly hats, and your granddaughter!

I got hold of a plastic pom-pom template today, a bit fiddly using the smallest rings but I've only tried one so far, maybe I'll get better at them. It's just not quite as easy to make pom-poms AND watch telly as it is to knit while watching TV.

Sorry to disappoint you all, but it was just on the news that Hats for Smoothies has been cancelled.

Sorry, only joking.

I'm so tempted to say something rude Peter, but I'm practising being on my best behaviour for Malvern, so I'm not going to voice my thoughts!
