I've got to try to keep up momentum on my back garden this week..and nibble away at it a little every day.

I saw the first proper snowdrop showing flower in the big garden today...there have been some flowering in late Nov' but they were specific early types rather than regular nivalis.

Also the echinops seed that I harvested from flower heads, still up in the border and put onto a seed pan on the 19th, are pushing up the vermiculite covering in the propagator today.

I tallied up the rain for Dec'...I hardly dare say that its been wet here at just over 2 inches for the month....but we are the 'drier side of England'...and we have had wet days ;)

I know this is a horrible thought but, I have an awful feeling the forum might come to an end in the near future…..so I had a thought, and only if this did happen, do you think it would be worth looking to all join another forum….maybe we could choose one in advance and we all move over to it, if the worse did happen…..any thoughts?

Scary to think how long I have been on here... and its earlier form and the original single page format. Certainly from at least back when I was pondering on Suffolk engines in the days of my forays to the Sunny South, West Sussex, in 2002-2007.
Maybe I would get more done if i wasn't sat here pondering and typing...no, not so..the very thought that I can report on some progress often is the very catalyst to go and do it........

I'm not too worried about the forum as although we are the only ones posting on here the number that are online can be quite significant. I still think we have too many options to post onto & it confuses folk. Maybe there could just be the option of posting one after another as the heading indicates the topic so folk could just skip if no interest to them or comment. Whatever; we certainly don't want is to be transferred to the main feed on FB, all posts go onto the main feed now but many are accessible to comments & not private. If the site has a padlock folk can't post but still can read. Of course not forgetting the multiple ads!
Not too long to Xmas now! I haven't got anything sorted as Mr in hospital but due out tomorrow. His rock & roll lifestyle & gene pool is catching up with him.

..and to update..I gave my small rootstock Queen apple tree a light prune today and this cleared the way for 5ft wide strip of digging, having also took down a bean wigwam and chopped up some sweetcorn stem remnant onto the compost heap.
Spade of choice at first was the S&J Neverbend no.1 grafting spade to get some depth although the English Tools Ltd 'Bulldog' was on site too. Longer handle...so might be sensible to switch back to that one....else never bend might be me... ;)

Always so many jobs to do, but still really enjoy doing most of them….. :)
A real bite to the wind this morning, even rolled my sleeves down, when I went to empty the ash buckets first thing!

Yes, the temperature is a bit more seasonal and the wind direction has made for some good dry roads this morning. I elected not to vent the greenhouses today, sunny at first but now heading down cloudy.

Sighted first aconite holding its head up yellow on a walk round this morning..that gives me another job to do here..find my patch of aconite and cut away spotty hellebore leaves to show off the forming flowers in same area.....and/or keep going with the digging....

I am getting a new kitty on 14th Jan to replace the big boy who got in the way of a car. It's quite weird & sad how the little one left has withdrawn & lost his spark, although still taking the opportunity to wind up the dog! Getting a tabby boy...should be interesting for sure to see the new dynamics!

Thanks for asking about Mr OH. He's being discharged from hospital tomorrow. I think he had a lot of people scratching their heads about what was going on but the doctors were very tenacious & found the problem. He at some point in the past had a little stroke, which they found on his scans & they put in a pacemaker to deflect any further problems so home tomorrow. Sounding like 2026 could be more positive!

A bit more garden progress today...dug out, split and replanted a small nursery bed of herbaceous plants that live on the path side of the otherwise vegetable area here which has enabled me to level up cultivation heading East along the path side.
Heading the other way, from the East, a very keen cool breeze but dry roads again for my early travels.

If all goes as planned Christmas dinner is for tea on Boxing day :? ....so it was chicken pie, baby potatoes and brussels sprouts today..with a mini Christmas pud..
After which I started to clear the next strip, bundling up canes from a pea row and putting a new stake at the small rootstock Annie Elizabeth apple tree..
