Thanks guys. I'll check out Travis Perkins - have a branch just up the road - and will look on the web to see if Clover have a stockist nearby! Yes, some sticky clay that sorely needs some attention!

Further to my report on my Levingtons Multipurpose compost looking at the bag it does say on one area of the bag that it uses recycled materials as an alternative to peat and that batches may vary in nature. I don't think that is good enough. They should have good enough quality control systems to ensure minimum variability. Any other company working in any other area would go bust if it didn't (food sector , clothes industry etc.).

A review by Kitchen Garden of compost and in particular their inter batch variability would be excellent.
