You can reduce costs greatly by saving seed.

We have peas, broad beans and kale saved. The peas and the kale are heritage varieties we bought many years ago from Irish Seedsavers and we have simply kept them going each year.

Wish the New Zealand Spinach had gone to seed but no; it is still producing new leaves; a gift of seed from someone's old seed box.

One spin off also is that we feed our dogs on home cooked food. And mix in all kinds of vegetables from the garden. Even got the cats lapping up blended meat stock vegetable soup.Much better than the stuff you can buy.
