On a more positive note ( sort of!), I would like to add that despite the worst whitefly infestation I have had in ten years, my brussels sprout plants are still producing very nice, usable sprouts.
The same plants were also badly infested with grey aphids in August, but the huge numbers of ladybirds that then appeared have kept that problem under control.
What I am trying to say is that there is no need to panic and go ripping brussels sprouts plants out at the first sight of these pests. There is a very good chance that you will still get a good crop from them.

Hi,
I used enviromesh ultafine this year from Gardening Naturally ;/www.gardening-naturally.com/acatalog/info_Ultrafine.html.
It did stop the white fly to a large extent but I was never sure how much rain it let in. It did stop all the dandelion seeds from getting to the crop as there was a line of them germinating round the edge!.

Hi folks. I see that Enviromesh now comes with a smaller hole size which may well do the trick. Just out of interest, does anyone know if whitefly just happen to fly in or do they reside in the soil during their inactive period ?
Cheers...Freddy.

Hi,
I went to a talk by John Trim at our local Garden Club and he said that using homogenised milk as a spray killed the white fly. Apparently he has written an article for the next issue of 'Simply Vegetables' the quarterly mag of the NVS - as a member I will look out for it and report back!
I thought all milk was homgenised nowadays but no doubt we will get more instructions in the magazine.
