Thank you OH. Yes Geoff The skies were lovely and clear the mountains were fab. We have just got back from our walk I almost feel like a cripple my knees are complaining. : We made the mistake of walking up the sharp end  On very loose shale and and once we were on it there was no going back, it was very, very steep. I was frightened to death but we made it to the top and the views were fabulous. We have had such a good day. Back to work tomorrow for a rest! Just been to shut my polytunnel up and I have covered my small seedlings as it seems to be getting very cool, very quickly. I have covered the two tomato transplants from the weekend. Don't know if I needed to or not. Just to be on the safe side. Tomorrow evening I will transplant my broad beans into the bed. Now I am going to get my tea. :)

Yesterday was a first, hope it works. Got in a mess with my rotations so Sweet Peas have ended up following Leeks. So yesterday I dug up the last two Leeks, dug and composted the strip, built the support framework, planted 90 Sweet Peas and wrapped the framework in fleece as usual. Never planted Sweet Peas in such loose ground before, have to see how they do.
With planting all the Onions and Shallots grown from seed and sowing Carrots and Parsnips the day before it is looking like something is stirring on the veg plot now.

:)

Catherine - you do sow new seeds don't you as parsnips don't keep well at all. Our plot neighbour tried growing year old seeds last year and they failed miserably. We gave them some that we had left from our sowings and they germinated well.

Peter - invest in a hat!

Don't encourage Peter - I got well burnt Sunday so dug out the sunhat yesterday and look what it's done to the weather, back to woolly hat today.

Hi Glallotments The seed was bought at the back end of last year, does that mean it is no use sowing these?

My asparagus crowns arrived from Pomona Fruits so I've planted all those and I've just finished building a 49 foot rockery this week and planted it up so I'm going to have a rest this weekend as I've siezed up altogether.

We so rarely have a spell of good weather that I seem to work 'til I drop just to get things done before it rains (or snows) again.

I'm doing a complete makeover of all the garden which is nearly half an acre to try and make it more manageable. The ornamental bits had got completely out of hand, and now there are just two of us at home I don't need to grow so many vegetables and fruit so it's a good time to sort it out.

Gorgeous weather here at Gatwick Airport. Airport? What airport?! A lovely silence pervades us, except for the regular passage of single-engined prop jobs which, I was told when enjoying my Sunday pint of Dark Star, is all the guys from the local grass field exitedly flying where they've never been allowed before and thumbing their noses at the Gatwick control tower. Perhaps another week or two and we'll decide that we no longer need bloody great jets golluping fuel and spewing out pollution.
Best to all, John N
