That's very true Chantal - after my weeks holiday - new threads had appeared and it was difficult to relate to them after people had been chatting about them.

I have been on another gardening forum this morning and I am glad to come back to here. One particular posting in general chatter was so rubbish that I could not understand what on earth they were talking about. It was obviously the usual people who were involved in a lot of the postings and it would have been very difficult to have added anything without sounding stupid. :? At least the general chatter here makes sense.

Wouldn't you just love to name and shame?

Here we can just sound stupid and no-one cares.

I've just been too busy to think of logging in except occasionally. I'm afraid I find computers hard work and will be found more happily on the plot instead of in front of a screen.

There could be another reason. Several topics come up year after year, such as what to do with garlic or what to sow towards the end of the season. It could be that some people switch off because they feel they've got all they need from most of the topics.

But it's a good forum to belong to because, as others have said, it's friendly and knowlegeable people are happy to share their expertise. Argument can be heated without getting personal [well, I can remember one instance ....] because we care passionately about what we do without becoming too "up" ourselves.

Perhaps it's because the summer keeps us all busy outside picking and weeding and I think too, over time, regular members of the forum learn a lot from more experienced gardeners and growers who answer their queries. As our knowledge builds up we need to ask fewer questions so there's less forum activity. Come the winter when it's cold, pouring with rain and we can't get outside, I'm sure some people will revert back to geting their gardening fix via "virtual techie" means on the forum.
But I agree that it's a very friendly forum and it's always pleasant to dip in and out to see what's happening, even if we don't have any specific queries at the time.

I always enjoy my visits to this forum and taking part in the friendly banter (and even offering advice if I am able.) The combined knowledge of you all is astounding and the best of it is, I would never feel silly about asking any of you for help and advice.

One sentance sums it up for me.
I feel I am among friends.

Long may it continue to be so.

Cheers.

Well, things certainly seem to have livened up since yesterday :D

I must admit that part of my reason for starting this topic was one of my very infrequent visits (maybe twice every three years) to another forum which seemed very lively, though very uninformative. "Name no names", but Hspx Zpvs Pxo is an easy enough code to crack

I agree with so much that all of you have said: KG forum is good-humoured, informative, friendly and knowledgeable (hopefully). Long may it continue so. I look at the forum several times a day and always try to answer if I have anything to say. Then there are all the "fun" threads

I think the other thing is you don't feel stupid when you offer suggestions even if they prove wrong as no-one makes you feel that you had no business giving an opinion either.

Hi all, I'm here too :)

I probably look on here at least six times a day, but don't seem to have much to say at the moment :D
It was nice to have a full days rain today for a change. We could certainly do with a lot more.

I have been away for a bit too, foot surgery followed by lots of physio, then a short holiday on the Isle of Wight.
I have also noticed that there has been less activity of late on here, and as Mike said, topics may be repeated year on year, and we don't really need to look at them?
Hopefully things will pick up. I shall be planting my wedding flowers next weekend. I am forcing some anemone coronaria in several greenhouses. They should be flowering by mid Feb and my wedding is the 27th. Please keep your fingers crossed for me! Any tips would be most greatfully received!

If topics are repeated though it must mean someone out there needs advice so maybe we should pop into the thread and try to help.
