Luckily, i started loads of stuff off on Wednesday so I should be ok. Will be in a sling for 3 weeks and can't drive which is a real buggar. Still, shit happens, what can you do? I was more bothered about getting away from the workies.

Ouch! u poor thing - I dislocated my sholder years ago and they didnt need to put me under to put it back - I passed out all on my own! Only labour came close to that kind of pain
On the subject of temp I recorded -11 deg C on one and -10 deg C on my second thermometers on Friday morning, coldest I 've been for a while - was absoulutly beautiful though! Chickens on hot porrige for breakfast this week poor sods, I even put a bag of wood chips by the stove to warm up and put them in the coop at roosting time - they looked at me with so much love and adoration I almost shed a tear

currently 1.2c looks like its gunna turn warm and wet come wednesday.this could be the last blast of the winter.lets get them seeds warmed up

Sue, how do you make the porridge for your chickens? I've only given birds porridge once before and the ducks got their beaks stuck together; it was a bit thick. Do you use water or milk?

I sometimes cook a bit of rice for the girls when it is really cold and give it to them when it's still warm, with some poultry spice mixed in. Leftover rice warmed up with boiling water works as well. It's non-sticky so no beaks glued up makes no mess as they always scoff the lot within seconds.

Yeah I know - total softie I just can't help feeling a bit sorry for them on these really cold frosty mornings.

Typical! I have a day off, loads of stuff to plant and sow, and it's snowing bigtime here in Derby! -7 registered in my greenhouse last night, and now this snow is settling too.

Its +2 here and actually snowing, funny though as its warm its not settling and my pond is actually thawing out.

I spent the whole day in hospital cos the fracture clinic was bulging and I had to wait in xray for bloody hours cos the quack though my shoulder hadn't been put back properly.

I've got 2 months of physio to go through now. Maybe i'll get the gimp suit out since i've got to go and see a torturer on a regular basis!!!!!

Snowed again here this morning for a while and was freezing cold.

What a difference a week makes. Snow and ice last Saturday and today I planted two 25 foot rows of Rocket and left them all tucked up under their cloche for a couple of months. Soil was in lovely condition having dug it in January and covered it with clear polythene. Frogs and spawn in the pond and Curlews overhead, I love their displays and calling at this time of year, a reminder that things are on the turn.

We used to have a caravan just between Ingleton and Bentham so I know that part of the world quite well. It's gorgeous and only one and a half hours away from Liverpool.
