Hi PJ Bet you cant wait. It is a week or two? The petrol crisis is being whipped up by the media and all the sheep rush to the petrol stations so they wont be out of petrol which causes the shortages. Our paper I think on Friday showed a picture of empty shelves but did not mention clearly that this was Spain not England. So the sheep will be thinking that there will now be empty shelves and will rush out and make them empty. Sorry for the rant but it makes my blood boil when the media gets going like this.

Nothing to do with the rain or lack of it.

Dear Catherine, Woburn Safari park is about 2 miles one way, and Whipsnade is about 10 miles the other way, as the Crow flies that is.
I tried to organise a bicycle trip round Woburn safari a few years back, but i couldn't get anyone else to go. :?

So that saves me having to go to Kenya or such distance places. :)

I'm just going to go to Norfolk this year, so be warned everyone across that way.
Kind Regards, Old Herbaceous.

Hi Catherine,

We're only going for the week I'm afraid. Sadly I'm not on tanker drivers wages, so two weeks would be stretching the budget a bit too much :) Are you going just for a week?
Cheers PJ.

I'm just off down the greenhouse. I won't be long...........

Yes I am afraid so. We have decided to go under our own steam and although we have done it before this time it is alot more expensive. Also we prefer to space our holidays throughout the year but because of my OH's operation on his knee in April we have missed our holiday then. So it is our first holiday of the year. Can't wait. Still no rain today though. It was coming from the direction of Skipton so maybe Monika might have been lucky. It rained in Barnoldswick where my daughter lives but no rain here. It just keeps passing round us.

You are right, Catherine, we had a lovely heavy shower today for about 40 minutes which brought down 7mm and everything looks lush again. It still looks dark in the northwest, so maybe there is more on the way. Great.

Hi Monika. Still no rain here. In Barnoldswick just over the hill, about four miles away it rained but still missed us. It does feel cold though. The temperature this morning was quite low about 4.5 deg and there has been a breeze all day which keeps drying everything up. On our plot we can see the hills over toward Boulsworth Moor and towards Howarth and they were getting a fair battering but nothing here. :(

Earlier my grand daughter claimed that there was snow on the hills on Boulsworth as the sun was shining on the hillside. But I was on top of Pendle this week and they also had "snow" but it is really the bog cotton flower or cotton grass which flowers April and May. (my OH informs me so).

Glad you have had some rain.

PJ did you manage to have a good long walk on the beach today with your daughter? Hope so. :)

Hi Catherine,

Yes, we managed a good long walk, tired the dog out, and even had a few spots of rain on the way back. She's gone back to London now though, as she has to get the early train up to Manchester in the morning.
Which airline are you flying with on your holiday. Prices vary so much don't they.
Cheers PJ.

No rain here in Somerset, just that darn northerly breeze keeping it cool... the outdoor toms and courgettes etc are not very happy with it...hoping for rain soon.

Hi Compo. I worked on our plot yesterday for most of the day with a light fleece on. Alot of our plants are just not growing. I am getting worried that we are not getting any peas and carrots germinating. :(

I'm begining to wonder what this rain stuff is :!:

There are a number of streams/rivers in Wales called Afon Hafesb, which means River which dries up in the summer. The river through our land is Afon Wen, which means white river from the appearance of its rushing water. At one time it was even called Afon Carrog, Swift rushing river. At the moment it's a mere trickle away from being Hafesb :!:

Mornin' all,

Another bright and sunny morning here, with very little wind for a change. Some showers forecast later in the week, but I wouldn't like to bet on whether we see them or not. I suppose the hosepipe bans will kick in soon
Cheers PJ.
