Hi Colin,
No nothing untoward. It is only that in all my years I have never even considered eating Beetroot raw.
I am having salad today and will try it.

Hi Tigger,
I forgot to say that I tried the uncooked Beetroot the other day and I mixed it up with some Hellman's and I thoroughly enjoyed it so thank you Colin because without your suggestion I probably never even considered it.

You're welcome! If you liked that, have a look at another use for it over in Reader's recipes.

I make a beetroot and carrot salad.
Grate the carrot and beetroot.
Make a dressing of orange juice, a bit of oil, salt and a pinch of sugar. (you need to taste the dressing before adding it to make sure it's to your taste). I think I may add a bit of balsamic vinegar as well.
Anway, mix it all together and add some toasted sesame, pumpkin and sunflower seeds and also lentil and mung bean sprouts if you have any.

No-one has mentioned my favourite way with beetroot.
Hot (prefereably freshly cooked but you end up allowing them to cool enough to get the skins off) with a sweet and sour sauce (i.e. a rue sauce with sugar and some vinegar)

Has anyone tried Jamie O's winter coleslaw recipe? I've made it several times and adjusted it according to what's in the garden/fridge - it's excellent. If anyone hasn't got it from the TV or book, I could post it up on the Forum.

If you want a real horror in the bathroom department, try eating large portions of beetroot and asparagus salad!
I like ours freshly boiled with egg and bacon for breakfast.
