Hi Wellie,
I very much doubt if the said farmer can give you the the information as he then would have to comply with the seed germination percentage regulation.
This would be a ballgame he would regret playing.
At the price he is charging it is cheaper to keep on buying the Shallots.
To my way of thinking he is a shiester with the price he is charging.

I take on board what you're saying JB.
As I say, I'm a patient girl, as well Trousers and you know well....
Why would said farmer NOT wish to set his potential punters straight?
Forgive me, but to advise your clients how to sow shallot seed is not rocket science.
Unless, of course, you aren't still sure yourself...
I'm not about stirring up a hornets nest here.
You know what? I just want the people that sold me the seed to come up with the cultural advice.
And I happen to think that's not at all unreasonable.
Please people, get a grip on the market you're aiming at. If you'd like us to buy your products, treat us like customers....
OK, rant over.
Wellie

What sunshine is to flowers, smiles are to humanity. The good they do is inconceivable....
All those peeps who wanted banana shallot seeds, well they do exist and most will be posted out before I go a scuba diving in Egypt in October, those who I post to will get a pm to say they are on there way. If you asked for some dont fret you will indeed get them in plenty of time to sow.

What - another holiday for the Piglets???!!!
At the price of banana shallots at this weekend's Food Festival at Abergavenny (£2.20 for a string of a dozen), you'll be able to have a 6 month long holiday next year Piglet.
Mind you, some silly, stripey creature with a springy tail bought 2 strings.

What was a Skunk doing at the Food Festival at Abergavenny then Tigger?
From what I have picked up regarding how hard he works the Piglet deserves every holiday he can get.
Mind you what with him being definately not halal, he'd better not let on to the nom de plume in Egypt.

No Peter, I tell everybody there that I am Cochon de Bayeaux and never ever get spit roasted.
Everybodies banana shallot seed has now been posted except JB as I am awaiting his address.
You should all have a 100 plus seeds each so go forth and multiply them.

I pm'd Piglet my thanks for seeds received
- and have since spent an age googling for instructions as to how, when and where to sow them. I think this must be the first time that Google has let me down
- I could find nothing helpful at all.
So I re-read this thread from the beginning
and I think that I shall follow Johnboy's method of starting the seeds off in modules in a propagator - but after the festivities
. That is, unless there is someone out there who has experience in a different way forward?
Maybe the banana shallot gang should confer closely.
