i've out more out today-they were in the potting shed,they got frazzled in the sun last week!
they look like they are on their last legs
last years look fine and dandy

i think i'll just see what happens-you really never can tell
no doubt dh will tell me i shouldn't have bothered!

Our's are now in full flower and we are cutting handfulls each day, the sent in the house is wonderful!

Jerry they look fabulous! I'm really envious.

Mine have thickened up a fair bit over last few weeks (since I pinched out tops)....but still only about 8-9inches high.
They're only annuals too so am getting a bit impatient now....will they have the time to amount to anything?
Mine are called 'Singing the Blues' which is something I hope I won't be doing at end of season.

Are you an Autumn or Spring sower? I sow in Spring and they have just started, probably the third decent bunch today if the rain stops. I find it easier than trying to over winter them and keep slugs out of the cold frame.

I used both methods, most are sown in the autumn and spend most of the winter in cold frames. I use root trainers to start them off well.

I also sow a second batch in the spring as these extend the season by a few weeks but I find the autumn sown ones perform far better on the whole.

plant out and water well with seaweed fertliser. When they are taller take off all the tredrils, the plant doesnot need these and more vigor will go into the leaves and the flowers. Hope this is of assistance

I know this sounds dim but when nowadays is autumn?

this pinching out business...
I've grown some sweet pea seeds and they're currently about 5" high with about three sets of leaves.
Should I wait until there are five sets of leaves? And when I do pinch them out do I nip the top set of leaves off just beneath the leaf or just above the 4th set?

Some of the seedlings are a little floppy, I assume because they're a bit leggy. They're good and strong though, they don't look weak at all.

Is there anything I should do?

If you have 3 good sets of leaves but they are a bit tall and floppy I'd suggest taking out the growing point from between the top leaves. One strong side shoot is always better than the leader but you should still get 2 or 3.
