Oh dear, OH .......

Glad to say that we had a heavy shower yesterday: 15mm, and you could almost hear the plants on the allotment sigh with relief. I spent this morning weeding the vegetable beds at home because before now, the perennial weeds were just breaking off at soil level because the ground was so hard. So now it's all nice and tidy again. Also sowed lots of green manure where the shallots and garlic have come out.

Anyone else sense the imminence of autumn in the mornings? A goose-pimply 6C this morning here

Newly seeded lawn is thrusting upwards, need to find a roller before first cut.
Torrential rain last night.

And it's dark in the mornings now, when i get up....

We also had a huge amount of rain last night, just what the Doctor ordered.

We seemed to have been bye passed by the rain although we have had weather warnings for 2 days prior to yesterday, this morning blue skies with a few white clouds but a bit windy at least it will be dry for our allotment open day today

Thank you for the plane spotting update. I haven't seen the Vulcan for about a year...it was at last years East Kirkby airshow just up the road from here.

BBMF Lancaster was heading over to NI today too I believe. Whilst the one from Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum is in BBMF hangar at Coningsby undergoing service after its trek from Canada, arriving yesterday...in the midst of the storms that swept across Lincs just at its arrival time.


Rainfall here yesterday was 38mm in two downpours.

Have got to ask - just where is left over Bertha going to hit? I've battened down lottie, extra bricks & stuff on the nets & fleece, she'd door secured, canes hammered a bit deeper & threw a bit of earth around the brassica stems.

It's a wait & see time - not to mention fingers crossed.

We had thunderstorms yesterday and could almost see the grass growing and lawns turning green again. Finally got the winter brassicas in and put plenty of slug pellets down. Hope they'll be ok had to wait until the potatoes were lifted before I had space to plant them. Limed it before the rain, then added plenty of compost and a bit of fertilizer before planting them today.

Yes, PP, we had a thunderstorm here too yesterday and the rain was very welcome. It's still completely dry under the large courgette leaves, but there is more rain to come, I believe!

Lifted a few more potatoes today (Safari and Cara) - not a brilliant crop and rather slug-affected. Presumably it was the long dry spell. But the French beans are producing like mad, I can hardly keep up with them.

Not sure about Bertha! I have an outdoor craft fair tomorrow, so I have my fingers crossed, but I'm not too hopeful!

The rain has arrived its coming down in bucketfulls, no drought now

Raining this morning, but I believe the forcast was for rain over most of the country. On friday we were in the White Rose shopping centre during the storm that hit. just sat down for a nice cuppa when the building was hit by lightning. Biggest bang I have ever heard. but no dammage done, just a set of lights went out.

It's been bucketing down here in Hull all morning but if this is as bad as it gets, I'll be happy! It isn't blowing a gale, which is what I hate most...
