Harvested Festival Squashes
Cleared last row of Mange-tout peas
Dug where peas had been
Dug between where two rows of potatoes had been
Got rained off.

I can remember in my building days when, Got rained off, would have been followed by, Went down the pub.

They were the days.

Love the display for Harvest Festival.

I'm hoping to tie the schools main harvest in with the RHS 'Getting Your Grown-ups Growing' event and then have a nice display for the Harvest Festival. Wont be as impressive as yours Clive but all the kids will be sitting tall knowing that they've all had a hand in what's there

PS What are the Ovalish shaped squashes propped against the basket?

Lovely pictures, Clive. Were they taken in that lovely chapel at Gunby Hall where I once heard an organ recital?

We have spent the last two days digging on the allotment - still a lot more to do but it's such a satisfying job. Digging is certainly my favourite gardening activity ever.

At long last, we had some heavy rain on Sunday

I dug my last potatoes last Friday morning, and it was just like digging through concrete!!

Picked some nice big butternuts, and loads of borlotti beans before the rain came yesterday.

The two squashes are rather oversize Spaghetti Marrows. ... I started growing them again a couple of years ago but remember them first when we were bought Johnsons Seeds vegetable starter kits back in the 1970s. My little brother and I where given a kit each one Christmas, one Sweetcorn, one Spaghetti Marrow.

The display is in the Parish Church, St Peters, which is adjacent to the hall & gardens and yes, there regularly used to be an organist playing during our Wednesday open days.

Very wet here this morning, but in the greenhouse potting up bulbs for forcing. A job i really enjoy, as it links another two seasons together.
And the thought of their beauty in Mid-Winter gives me a real lift.

A bit damp here this morning but Sam, back from his week at Butlins, was able to just get all the "big mower" mowing done....including riding across the tyre tracks that the toilet trailer from this weekends wedding made as it was towed over the front lawn....
The wedding reception on Saturday was in sunshine and blue skies...were they lucky...avoiding the winds of Sunday and this afternoons torrential rains.

It went as dark as night at about 3:30pm and has bucketed down since.

Our bulb order came the other week, the Daffs and Hyacinths are already potted up and outside buried in deep trays covered up with leaf mould.

I have been bringing in cuttings from herb garden etc today for a new Volunteer to process. Whilst our loyal monthly Monday Volunteer was trimming and edging the lawn tree circles....so all in all it was a really good day of progress. ....until the rains came........

Well I've now picked all my cherry tomatoes both from the greenhouse and from the plants outside. Most of them are still green but a fair few are showing signs of or in the process of going red. Must be a good 200 tomatoes for the kidlings to munch on over the next few weeks.

All have been washed and dried and placed onto a large platter in the kitchen to continue ripening. Didn't want to chance leaving them on the plants much longer as the outside plants were starting to show signs of too much rain and the greenhouse plants were beginning to buckle under the weight of fruit.

Only the tomatoes in the hanging baskets left to bring in now but leaving them for as long as possible and I'm thinking of moving the baskets into the greenhouse once I've removed the now bare plants and grow bags out of the way.

Will also be moving the tubbed potatoes and carrots into the greenhouse once the space is made. Just need to get motivated to go out in to the awful cold, damp weather to do the necessary graft .

Envy your word damp. Started raining tea time Sunday and hasn't stopped since, neither does it look likely to.

You have my sympathies Geoff. I look at the news and am very, very grateful that 'damp' is the word I need to use.
