Looks like everybody's gone away for a long weekend. Might as well try somebody else's rain I suppose.

Not been on for a while, numerous stuff going on that I won't drivel on about here. But it has been a varied year on the plot, beans are great, Spuds are good (when will people listen about sticking to Sarpo) this is the third year that everyone has been ravaged by blight, and the might Sarpo remains upstanding on my plot. Not that the spuds are free from worm or slug damage mind.

I have only just got my first red tomatoe, they have been slow to ripen.

And the weeds, ah yes, a highly successful crop there.

Well nice to talk, got some time off work, so taking wifelet out for a coffee and a cake, enjoy the liquid sunshine on the somerset coast....!!!

We have managed to get the Yew hedges trimmed this week..clippings now stored on a cool floor ready for collection on Tuesday for drying and eventual Taxotere manufacture. I got the last bit of hedge trimmed this morning.
I took some Onions up this afternoon and have got them up on the frame ready to dry in the Bank Holiday weekend sunshine........ .
The tops had recently gone down with downy mildew but amazingly only 3 had any other form of rot and all have made a good size.

Very envious of those onions - mine haven't swelled much beyond set size this year

Cleared my onions yesterday, not very good for size, but no sign of any rots, which surprised me.

Found a few starting to go soft, must keep an eye on them.

Personally I don't care if a potential heir to the throne is no good at Billiards so can't get his balls out of sight.

Weirdly the veg doing best out of all my greenhouse things and is second only to the tomatoes in terms of produce over all this year, are the Chillis

I had thought it would be too damp and cold for them overall but the little greenhouse which houses them, has been quite humid and I'm thinking this might be the reason behind their success. I really wasn't expecting a good crop judging by the weak seedlings that I had way back in February/March but they have really recovered well and the only variety not to be doing well are the Peach Habanero.

As we go through loads of chillis each year and they aren't cheap to buy, this is very good news for us.

Very chilly out there this morning, but looks as if it's going to be a superb day out there today.
And the outlook is looking good too.

Dug up the Wilja potatoes this morning and from forty-odd tubers planted had a return of about fifty pounds of usable potatoes but it was hard work.The ground was packed solid with little"reservoirs" of water every so often and I still have three rows of Kestral to lift yet!

Full moon tonight,the second of the month,so it is that rarity,a Blue Moon.

Very chilly wind this morning, but it was nice and sunny all day.
Weeded through one of my leek tunnels. Still no sign of the dreaded leek moth
I'm off for a couple of weeks holiday on Wednesday, and just hope I don't find decimated leeks when I get back

Trimmed the leaves of the Winter Festival squashes and the pumpkins back to let the growing fruits absorb what sunshine there was today
