Westi - we gave up on our milkman at the time maybe 40 years ago as he was leaving milk on the doorstep in full sun. It can be difficult to arrange for somewhere safe to leave if you are not in all day or at the time they call.

I wouldn't let a lot of the farmers round here hear you calling the Co-op ethical if I was you. They used to be processors but sold that business to a cooperative of farmers then they cancelled their contract with the business. Result, the cooperative went bankrupt and many of the farmer shareholders lost many thousands of pounds. I don't know of any that themselves went bankrupt but I expect there were some, many of them certainly went out of milk production.

Do you know, i've got a feeling this was done to distract us from something a lot bigger. Now what that bigger thing is, i don't know.

Our local farmers formed a Cooperative years ago.

According to their July Newsletter which came with my monthly Creamery bill, the farmers were paid in June, 31.87 cent per litre based on an average butterfat test of 3.76% and an average protein test of 3.31%.

How does this compare with UK?

Maybe it would help the consumer, if the price paid to farmers was stamped on the bottle.

Well you can buy or make lockable milk boxes. As for the sun issue, I asked my milkman to put the milk behind a large planter which happens to be by the step, to keep it in the shade which he was happy to do. Our issue with the milkman is that the delivery is often nearer lunchtime than breakfast which is a pain if we need to be out all day.

Colin - contact them again - they are more flexible now & they may deliver earlier as they have done all that time & motion stuff. (Worth a try )

Hi Westi - don't see the milkman around here where I now live.

Also, see that Adsa have now agreed to pay 2p more. This brings it up to 29.5p/litre, still well below what M&S pay.
