Just returned from holiday and must say how lovely Britain is despite the wet summer. Seeing how dry some countries are and the problems of having to transport desalinated water from the coast to water their plants because the springs have all dried up made me appreciate our beautiful green country.
I've tackled the rampant weeds and slugs today and appreciated the value of so much compost material and noticed that there are far more song thrushes and blackbirds with the abundance of slugs and snails. I admit that the beans and squashes are looking a little forlorn outside, but everything in the greenhouse is thriving. I've picked baby carrots, French beans, courgettes and lettuce and noticed the first tomato reddening.
There are also masses of strawberries and raspberries to pick, so it is not all bad news.
