The Sweet Corn I sowed on the 25th of May, is all up now and not a miss in 18 pots,, so pleased about that.
Since it was a little wet this morning, did some seed sowing in the greenhouse, more Pumpkins, Marrows, Courgettes, Calabrese and some pelleted seeds that are in a small plastic tube….can’t remember what the seeds are though, so that will be a surprise!
Sorry if i’ve made you feel a little jealous, Ophelia, but it’s not my fault you haven’t got a greenhouse…..lol

Had a nice amount of rain today so no watering needed tomorrow so can crack on from when I get down. It has to be plant day, the staging is outside with some bubblewrap around to protect from the wind but the plants are screaming to get out, OK exaggeration just popping up over the bubble wrap edging!
Timed perfectly as the plastic wire ordered came today so can get that around the squash & pumpkin as soon as finish planting to deter the dog. Silly mutt could jump it in a blink but used to it being on things & somehow knows it's out of bounds. It's the best I've had & the first batch is over 3yrs+ old & perfect whereas the green plastic dipped netting fell into little segments. It is black plastic dipped & holes are round if interested in checking it out. Only marginally more expensive but looks well smart & neat & lasting well.
Really looking forward to planting the babies out & also remembered to pack my charged up power secateur things to cut the canes shorter. It doesn't matter if cut down a bit as just for my height & the tool is super powerful so shouldn't split the canes, but will see about that!

All the squash/pumpkins beds completed & dog proofed. Some casualties with the runners due to a near miss incident on the bus when some fool cut up the bus getting out of McD's & that bag slid down the aisle. Not the drivers fault but she was shaken up & upset, but the bus is apparently full of camera's just for these events. I'm not sure the planted runners will make it, some just had to be thrown as main stem snapped off, some with just the odd leave snapped. I was surprised how they succumbed in such a short time, the worst injured were all limp by the time I got down to the plot, only about 30 mins max even with the wait for the police. Filled the gaps with seeds & threw some camphor balls down to deter rats/mice.
The power secateur made short work of the huge canes so I will focus on sorting this out & it was already planned to be direct sown so no issues with plants & I will sow the climbing French beans as well. Just 2 small rows of celeriac to replace, but have the replacements & strangely the turnips were also a no show, but got some of them growing as well - must have had psychic moment!
Only 1 catch up which is replacing the broad beans which all succumbed to black fly so will re-sow them on the other side & cover them better. That's it, back to weeding then & some rain in the mix so that will make it easier. I will move onto outside then & play with my new manual mower thingie, not overly confident but sometimes reviews are right so could be surprised!

Today I got wet; so much for light rain! I got very wet just getting from the bus stop to the plot so I just went with it thinking it might pass - it did but more came & more due over the weekend along with big wind & thunder & lightening. Anyway I just got on with it & shook the resident spider out of my little waterproof I keep at the plot. I took advantage as no one down so filled all the butts & watered everything whether they needed it or not; however most did need an extra water as my test digs showed still dry about 6" down on plot 1 beds, plot 2 was fine but got a water anyway especially where the broad beans were, just in case a rouge black fly was hiding there. Some more losses with the runners that took a dive in the bus fiasco but had a few perking up still in the tray to fill the gaps.
Managed to get the last frame up & that is sowed with runners along with the climbing french beans on the smaller frame. Filled some gaps with plants I had growing, sowed the new broad beans on the other side after prepping the bed as it was still closed. Mr Fox & the cubs were busy so had to clean up their mess & re-bag it, but didn't see my neighbour to see if he would take them to the tip so this might be a repeat performance until Monday. A quick weed & earth up of the spuds (again) & back to Plot 2 next week to weed.
