Thanks Myrkk, not heard that expression before, but there certainly are words left from previous languages in areas that stay in the vocabulary. I noticed it a lot in Oz as well when I moved from the outback to the big smoke. Where I lived in Charleville we had a wide ethnic diversity due to early residents taking up opportunities to expand the town & it's services when it was decided it would be a perfect base for the flying doctor service which was still a dream back then, but they found bore water which was invaluable even though steaming hot & undrinkable until pumped up, collected & cooled, but perfect for a cuppa.
The government then enforced education onto the aboriginal tribes, which they followed as still pretty repressed but they were threatened with the removal of their children if not. I remember them setting up shelters in the dry Warrego River bed (not always dry, floods if big rain in the desert as only river bed to flow along); but kids being kids we made friends & picked up their language while they learnt more English & we played & learnt together at school & they got housing. I'm pretty sure they taught me mostly bad words as got a lot of telling off by their parents! It balanced out but I deffo confused a lot of city folk with the swear words I had learnt, which was handy as got away with it. Forgotten now unfortunately as there are still times I would love to remember them !
