We've had snow here and the lottie is like an ice rink...........it's really bad. Ice is around an inch deep in places. We're due for more snow this week so that's knackered up my digging plan. Oh dear.........what a shame

Looks like i'll have to have a few fires to keep warm

My friend had 30 bags of fresh horse manure for me before Christmas, but I was unable to collect them, because the cycleway that goes from the road to the allotment gate was in full use as a sledging ramp.
It slopes north into a frost pocket and is sheltered from the sun by houses, trees and tall fences, so was impassible, I did not dare try it even in my very capable Land Rover.
Now this week we have had plenty of rain on the coattails of the thaw and the ground is, well, squelchy is the best word I can think of.
I'll be fine getting in and out, but I don't think the allotment track will be after I've left,

, so I'll wait till it dries a bit or we get a good frosty morning.

Dear Clive, please can you refrain from giving people ideas, they will be locking me up there.
It's been raining here for 24 hours now, lots of surface water laying about.

Hello Old H',
Yes, all items have been retained, less dust,...except for the relay in the plastic bag which I have decided would be better in the electrical storage area...
I have escaped for a few minutes digging.....it helps that we have 2ft of sandy based soil above a layer of the local greensand...
It's only a little area dug..home to Dahlias and a row of Gladioli this year...but it is start..

I'm surprised you can actually see soil, let alone dig it.
My garden is still under snow and ice. I've just tried to attach a photo, but it says the file is too big. Never mind.

I'm feeling quite left out now, as no snow here, only rain

Dear Doneigging, no need to feel left out, just rain here as well and too much of it.

Light flurries of "polystyrene" snow blowing by down the East coast from mid morning....
Bit more digging acheived.

.....it's better than dusting in the hallway..
However, I'm now feeling the fact that I have been very idle over Christmas and in fact the week before too.....
Good job we have light soil at home....must get back in practise for the heavier stuff we have at work.....

Dear Clive, just knock the head off a couple of ornaments, you won't get asked again.
Started cutting the large Holly hedge at the big house today.

I dug out the last carrots today which had been growing under a netting tunnel and then dug over the ground, it was great. Itching to get out tomorrow (if it isn't too frosty or snowed over again) to get more digging done.
