LEEK PROBLEM

Can't identify that mould? Got a great tip for keeping slugs at bay? Suggestions for organic weed control? Post them here...

Hi Compo,
Having been struck last year- this year I covered with enviromesh from the start and the leeks are fine and growing well much to my relief since either side the leeks have been hit hard this year up on the allotment.
If you use enviromesh you need to put it on early and leave it on until well into October.

Been thanked: 1 time

For anyone who's still agonising about what to do with leeks that have been attacked by the dreaded moth, it's still worth considering pruning back the damage.

I did mine a few weeks back - probably later than I should have done. Not only were the tops tatty, the layers lower down were pretty manky and slimy in some cases. Both the tops & yukky bits at the base were removed (though not without a few qualms).

With some relief I checked them again yesterday and they seem to be bouncing back already and now look much healthier. If you were unsure whether to try, hopefully this will reassure you.

I'm in agreement with you on this one Colin. I started cutting mine down to about a couple of inches from the ground about 3 weeks ago, and they have all taken on a new lease of life :D
Cheers PJ.

I'm just off down the greenhouse. I won't be long...........
