Hi Natures Babe,
For almost as long as you and I have been gardening Jeyes Fluid was licenced as a soil sterilant. One presumes that because sales fell off it was no longer profitable to pay to renew the licence.
I only use it now to sterilize my benches and equipment and have not used it on the soil for many many years.
Whether or not it would have failed to be licenced is something we probably will never know. I am not advocating it's use as a sterilant just merely explaining the position.
As a rule I do not use any chemicals on productive land and the land here was cleared long before the common use of herbicides without them.
