I'm trying a new tactic. If Tim starts on about the intricacies of some football match, I'm going to listen and then give him the full details of what I've done at the allotment or greenhouse; or perhaps the life cycle of the tomato, the best way to make compost, stuff like that. If he listens, then I will listen to the football chat. If he doesn't listen, glazes over or falls asleep then I am under no obligations. Does that sound a fair deal?

Dear Chantal, as always, harsh but fair.

Well, I for one am looking forward to the W/C. The wife always likes to play it down, but when England are playing, she always seems to get engrossed
Back of the net !
